The paint layer is currently stable but has suffered from loss and damage in the past and in some areas has a wrinkled surface texture. There is extensive retouching in the sky and the child's face as well as other scattered retouchings across the surface. The varnish is clear and even. Losses to the gilded surface, especially at the sides.
