浙江杭州人。名褆，初名寿祺，字维季，号福厂，七十岁後自号持默老人。现代著名书法家、金石家。因喜收集印章，自称印备，室名麋研斋。工书，凡钟鼎、籀隶无不能。清末与丁仁等创设西泠印社。民国初年到京，任印铸局技正，後至沪鬻字治印自给。解放後为中国画院画师。
