字祖同，号瓶斋，室名天随阁，谭延闿之弟。善书法，工行楷，师法翁同龢、何绍基、钱沣，上溯颜真卿。气格雄伟壮健，力度刚强，善榜书。 取法颜真卿，兼工汉隶。又善诗，能画。民国时南京“国民政府”牌匾即为其所书。上海、香港两家《文汇报》的报头即其所书，至今沿用。在国民党的元老中，谭延闿的行草、于右任的今草、胡汉民的汉隶、吴稚晖的古篆，有“ 四珍”的美称。
