NOTE Graduated from the Indochina School of Fine Arts (15th class, 1941-1946), he mainly works in oil and gouache. A painter of great originality, he knows how to combine the technique of Western painting of the Parisian school with the Asian style where drawing is the most important. His manner is best expressed in his innumerable "pochades" of the old streets of Hanoi. The portraits made by BUI Xuân Phai exude a great expressionist force. He taught at the Vietnamese School of Fine Arts from 1956 to 1957. Paintings are exhibited at the Museum of Fine Arts of Vietnam.
