NOTE The kim khánh ("golden gong") is an order issued by the rulers of Annam. The date of its creation is not known at this time. It probably dates back to the reign of Gia Long (1802-1820) or Minh Mang (1820-1840).
The gold Kim khanh, particularly decorated with two dragons in relief paying homage to the sun, enhanced with fine pearls, is a true work of art. It was intended for a member of the imperial family or for one of the four eminent dignitaries advising the sovereign, the "Pillars of the Empire". It would date from the early periods.
