林纾(1852～1924)原名群玉,字琴南,号畏庐,别署冷红生,福建闽县人,古文家、翻译家,晚称蠡叟、践卓翁、六桥补柳翁、春觉斋主人,室名春觉斋、烟云楼等。林纾早年曾从同县薛锡极读欧阳修文及杜甫诗。后读同县李宗言家所藏书,不下三、四万卷,博学强记,能诗,能文,能画,有狂生的称号。光绪八年举人,二十六年在北京任五城中学国文教员,推重桐城派古文,后在北京,专以译书售稿与卖文卖画为生。曾创办苍霞精舍(今福建工程学院前身)。工诗古文辞,以意译外国名家小说见称于时；山水初灵秀似文徵明,继而浓厚近戴熙；花鸟得其师陈文台之传,淡墨薄色,神致生动。
