砚为端石雕就，用料厚实，大气沉稳。砚身蕉叶形，砚首雕琢脉络，砚池饰一螭虎，灵动传神。砚背行草书“温润如玉，不盈一掬，何以置之，石渠天禄”，燕昌。钤“芑堂”印章款。$张燕昌(1738—1814)，字文鱼，号芑堂，又号金粟山人，清浙江海盐武原镇人。擅篆、隶、飞白、行、楷书，精金石篆刻、勒石，工画兰竹，兼善山水、人物、花卉，亦精竹木雕刻。大胆创新，试以飞白体入印，被誉为浙派篆刻的“负弩前驱”。
