Margaret Covey Chisholm (NY, 1909-1965), Portrait of a Young Man oil on canvas, signed at lower right, presented in a period Newcomb-Macklin frame retaining a partial label. DOA 34.25 x 29.5 in. Margaret Covey studied at the Art Students League in New York and at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts. She later studied at the École des Beaux-Arts in Fontainebleu and at Yale. Primarily known as a portrait painter, she painted the mural for the Livingston, Tennessee post office as part of the WPA artist project during the Great Depression.
