RARE PAIR OF INLAID & GILDED BRONZE LEG, HAN DYNASTY, TESTED
A highly unusual pair of inlaid and gilded bronze fittings.Bears, such as these, were a popular subject in art of the Han dynasty. This pair of highly decorative fittings likely served as legs on another artifact. Semi-precious stones once accented the head, eyes, belly and legs of each bear. Several of these smooth stones have survived the ages, and rich gilding further adorns the surface of each bronze.
