A Palissay portrait plaque by Edouard-Léon Deschamps Avisseau: of circular form modelled in relief with a sinister profile of Ambroise Paré together with the the rod of Aesculapius,under brown, ochre, manganese and flecked blue glazes incised Amb, Pare, signed with A.V. monogram and '94', painted verso 'Ie Le Pansay, Dieu Leguarit', 26 cm diameter, mounted with square wooden frame.*Note Ambroise Paré was a 16th century Parisian doctor often referred to as the father of surgery, the painted text verso is a famous quote by him which translates 'I dressed him, God cured him'* Note Cf.
