Two Bristol or Wincanton delftware plates c.1740, one octagonal and one round, each painted with a central octagonal panel in blue with ships sailing before a castellated building flying a pennant, reserved on a powdered manganese ground with small floral vignettes, minor damages, 22cm max. (2) Provenance: respectively acquired from Minette Puxon Antiques, Colchester, 6th March 1975; and Sotheby's, 20th May 1975, lot 19. Cf. Michael Archer, Delftware, p.140, nos. B49 and B50 for plates with a similar harbour design.
