From the Danish Art Nouveau (Jugend/Skonvirke) period
Designed by Thorvald Bindesbøll and made in faience (tin-glazed pottery) at the Aluminia Factory in Copenhagen, Denmark in around 1908
26cm high x 22cm wide
523g
>> Pre-owned, one hairline crack to the rim
Note: The subject is the gateway to the Carlsberg brewery in Valby which was designed by architect Vilhelm Dahlerup and built in 1901. Over the gate is brewer Carl Jacobsen's personal motto 'Laboremus Pro Patria' or 'Let us work for our country'. The plaque is also adorned with a reverse swastika. This character has nothing to do with Nazi swastika. It is an ancient sign of the sun which was used by Carlsberg on their labels and bottles between 1896 and 1945
