John Masterman London. An 18th century gold pair-cased pocket watch: the movement having a verge escapement with a silvered 'Tompion' style regulation, pierced and engraved backcock with rose diamond endstone and signed on the backplate 'Jno. Masterman, London. No. 541', the brass movement cover with repeat signature, the silver dial with raised gold Roman numerals and outer floral raised decoration, with gold spade hands, the inner case hallmarked for London 1770, and stamped with the maker's initials JS, the outer case having raised decoration to the bezel and repousee scene depicting a marriage, with foil-backed rose diamond cap to the catch, 50mm diameter overall, 100gms gross weight. * Biography John Masterman is recorded as working as a goldsmith and watchmaker at No.1 White Hart Court, Gracechurch Street, London from before 1753 until at least 1784.A watch by Masterman is known to be in the Feill Collection.
