A late Victorian silver mounted and cut glass inkwell, the circular form with reeded borders enclosing gadroon decoration, and a name engraved flat hinged lid, hallmarked John Grinsell & Sons, Birmingham 1891, diameter of base 4 1/2 inches (11.5 cm). Together with an Edwardian silver mounted ink pot, the bulbous glass body with protruding curves, hallmarked Birmingham 1903, height 2 1/2 inches (6.3 cm). (2). Both inkwells appear in fairly good overall condition, displaying some general wear, surface marks and scratches and some tarnishing to the silver. The hinged lids appear in good working order, the larger one does not close completely flush. Some surface nicks and edge nibbles to glass and heavier contact marks to underside. Hallmarks to larger example partly rubbed but legible and the reverse of lid also marked Goldsmiths & Silversmiths Co. (retailer's mark). The smaller ink pot also with rubbing to hallmarks and partial distortion to maker's mark, possibly Levi & Salaman, clear part hallmarks to lid.
