款识：玉堂清玩 |炉作鬲式，乃仿自古青铜器造型，缶身圜底，平口厚凸唇、短束颈、无耳，扁体鼓腹、下承三乳足。铸造颇为精致，造型亦古雅端庄。底铸阳文篆书『玉堂清玩』款。赵汝珍在《古玩指南》中称，『玉堂清玩』主人为明权臣严嵩之子严世蕃此件铜炉制式古典，又以精铜提炼熔铸，铜色红润，炉壁厚实，除平口及束颈起阳线外，通体光滑圆润，素体无纹，体表珠光宝气，造型素雅且朴实静穆，转折圆实精妙，金石韵味卓绝。此炉工艺精湛，线条干净利落，或为当时严世蕃所造炉中之一。
