A messing spherical censer, entirely in openwork with floral decor. Can be flipped open and suspended. Functioning hinge and clasp. Movable spherical rings on the interior, with movable but gimballed bowl (always stays level) for incense. These special censer spheres, which were evidently popular during the Tang period, are known as Xunqiu 薰球 and were used to scent garments. They could be suspended in a room or worn. In style of Tang.
