铜药师佛全名为药师琉璃光如来、药师琉璃光佛，为佛教东方净琉璃世界之教主。以“净琉璃”为名，乃取琉璃之光明透彻以喻国土清静无染。东方药师佛与西方阿弥陀佛被视为解决众生生死问题之两大并行佛陀，在藏传佛教中，其常见形象为身着袈裟，左手持钵盛满甘露，右手持诃梨勒果（诃子药）。《金光明最胜王经》云：“诃梨勒一种，具足有六味；能除一切病，无忌药中王。” 在西藏医学中，认为诃梨勒功能治邪魔及眼疾，是金刚乘甘露法药之基本药材。此尊药师佛螺发，面相庄严，眉间有白毫。身体舒展而挺拔，全跏趺坐于莲台上，表现了佛像自然舒泰的内涵。莲台较宽，莲瓣短小，上下整齐对称，造型规整。整体表现了西藏地区15世纪造像的成熟风貌，表现了药师佛慈悲庄严之特征。
