由广元黎渊石雕刻的广元石砚，其石质细腻精密，刚柔相济，色泽晶莹，滋润而富有耐性，兼有端砚、歙砚优点。凡砚池内墨未用完时只要将砚盒盖好，无论冬夏都能保持数日不涸，作绘画调色盒时亦然，在缺水的情况下，呵气三口即可磨墨。且写字、绘画不易磨损毛笔， 故该砚有“发墨，护笔，保水”之三绝。
