|此笔筒沉香木随形雕就，包浆深沉油亮，器身厚重，有幽香散发。器身随形浮雕雕山林景致图纹，画面苍松翠柏，翠竹杨柳，怪石陡崖，山泉潺潺，一派世外美景，跃然其上。整体雕刻疏落有致，高低起伏，立体感十足。沉香木自古珍贵，其雕刻艺术更是源远流长。明清两代，宫廷皇室皆崇尚用沉香木雕制文房器物，工艺精美，欣赏把玩之余，阵阵香气扑鼻，常常令人心旷神怡。本件笔筒，取材硕大，整木深挖，下嵌红木为底，器壁刀法犀利，粗中有细，层次分明，是沉香木雕文房器物中的精品之作，或出自宫廷旧物，殊为难得。同类器物可参阅故宫博物院旧藏“明沉香木雕山水笔筒”（《中国竹木牙角器全集3，木雕器下》，页48、图46）。
