此件拍品为铜制嘎乌盒，年份可追溯到明代，是西藏地区男子佩戴的护身符盒子。“嘎乌”，是藏语的音译，指护身佛的盒子。盒子里一般装有小佛像、印着经文的绸片、舍利子或者甘露丸、由高僧念过经的药丸，以及活佛的头发、衣服的碎片等。作为护身、减小业障和增长修行之用。嘎乌盒为小型佛龛，通常制成小盒型，用以佩戴于颈上，龛中供设佛像。密宗行人于出门时佩戴，一者祈求本尊加持，二者于修法时可取出供奉，为随身之密坛。“嘎乌”有金、银、铜造的三种，银制的较普遍，形状大小不一样。男子用方的，女子用圆的，挂在脖子上，垂在胸前。佩戴嘎乌，一方面有护身的意思，另一方面也有装饰的意思。因此，藏民多在出门时佩戴。
